Life’s Been a Rush

Busy doesn’t even begin to describe it. Full-time hours, full-time school, and a 1 year old are enough to fill anyone’s plate. I wouldn’t be able to get any of it done without an incredibly loving and supportive wife. I can’t repay her for the sacrifices of time and sleep she’s made on my behalf – all I can do is hope that this career change is going to be enough to make it all worthwhile someday – for our whole family.

I just completed my Linux+ Certifications, and I have to say it’s easily the most worthwhile one I’ve gotten so far. It may not be the money-maker that other certs are, but learning Linux gave me a lot of freedom and confidence in some of the more technical aspects of my job. I’ve seen how operating systems work down in their guts, and I’m far more comfortable in the CLI than I ever was before.

As I consider my future after this position, I have to wonder – how would I handle network support? A small-business consulting type setup would be a good way for me to hone my skills on a variety of systems while continuing to have a part with the end-user support that I enjoy so much. While I’m comfortable spending a large chunk of time at the screen, I do enjoy talking to people…
